How to fangate a tab on your Facebook page

Fangating 101

A fangate is a custom tab on your Facebook page that shows certain content to a visitor only *after* they have liked your page. It is a tool that lets you provide an incentive for visitors to like — for example, you could have a coupon, or an ebook download, that is only displayed after someone likes your page.

So basically, you are giving your visitors something in exchange for them liking their page.

Alternatively, you can structure it more like a prompt and thank you message. The first content shown could explain the benefit to a user of liking your page, and then the fan-only content could simply thank them for liking your page.

Step 1: add a tab to your page

You’ll need to add a Thunderpenny Static HTML tab┬áto your page if you haven’t already. Then use one of our built in apps to create the content you want your fans to see.

Step 2: turn on fangating

After clicking Edit Tab, select Fangate, click to enable fangate, and Boom! Our instant fangate app has already set you app with a beautiful and simple fangate. You should probably use the rich text editor to customize the call to action, but past that you don’t need to do anything else.

This is the most important step. Think about *why* your visitors would want like your page, and speak to that. Keep it short and simple, though. Nobody wants to read a wall of text!

Step 3 (optional): manually customize the fangate

WIth instant fangate, you don’t need to create custom content for your fangate past the call to action. But if you do want to spend the time to create a fully custom fangate, you can do that by clicking “use an app instead”. That gives you access to all the apps, so you can customize to your heart’s content. If you ever want to go back to instant fangate, just click “use instant fangate”.

Simple, eh?
